Um... Hey everybody! This is -- I wanna talk especially to all the new people here, the ones who came from that other ship. [This is a friendly smile, but a nervous one.] My name's Elle, Elle Days. I've been here for, uh, a while. Yeah. I'm not an Assistant right now, but I've been one before. Uh... More than once. So -- I know how hard can be, to find your path to... happiness. The kind of happiness the Nurse is trying to get everyone to.
But -- I want to try to help. I... haven't been through what you guys are going through right now, but I know what it's like to... lose people. [She has been fidgeting through the whole video, fingers tugging at themselves and dancing over her knuckles, but here, for a brief moment here, they stall out. When they start back up, that fidgeting is noticably faster.] Um. So. I thought -- It might help to... make a list. Of all the people you're looking for, the ones you want to know what happened to them, where they went. And I thought maybe I could be the one to put it together? And then we could ask the Nurse.
It... I dunno what kind of answers we'd get, but it's worth trying, right?
Um. So, yeah, this is like, a weird kind of roll call I guess? [Elle laughs a little.] And I know people have offered to answer questions and help with adjusting and stuff, but, uh, I'll toss my hat into that ring, too, while I'm at it.

"Oh-" He sounds, breaking into a little laugh with a bob of his head and a lift of his eyebrows. "I suppose he has a point." Raylan hadn't thought about Cores, about how the ships were likely alive in some capacity. If someone could hurt the Barge, why couldn't they hurt the Clipper?
He was going to get Yunlan the largest, most high shelf saki he could get his hands on.
"Entropy. Catch them off guard, overwhelm resources. Time enough to get a body to sit up in the treehouse." He was avoiding words like Occupy or Riot or Overthrow the Regime. You know. Subtle like.
"Enough of us move at once, we can rock this boat."

Elle nods along as he talks, the picture of someone just attentively listening to her conversation partner. And when he's done, she nods again, firmly, more purposefully -- agreeing with him. But she doesn't reply right away, head tilted to one side, thinking.
"It's hard to say how it'd go... What kind of response it'd get." Her hands move now, gesturing vaguely, but upwards. What kind of response it'd get from the Nurse, she means. "And, in the end... It'd be about getting the chance to talk. Right? The chance to change things?"
no subject
"Yes. A chance to maybe force the Nurse or their bosses to the table. To.." He sighed roughly out of his nose, waiting for the body that was oncoming to pass them before continuing.
"To make them listen to us. I- Have you ever seen any loud trouble here? Anythin' to shake the boots of any of the Assistants?" He had been wondering, but maybe he hadn't been asking the right people the right question.

He'd taken some notes on the Barge, to say the least.
"There's no promise that we're gonna change anythin'.. But I can't sit around and not try. Not with how folks are being held and handled here. A few of my fellow Barge folk agree, so no one would be doin' it alone."

"There are a lot of people... who don't like how things are here. But we... It's... really easy to feel -- helpless, here. Powerless." Elle's eyes are on the floor ahead of them as they walk, her voice growing softer. "Hopeless. Like nothing we do is going to make a difference."
She takes a deep breath, now, and lifts her chin, first just... up, looking at the ceiling, before turning her eyes to him. "So... You guys, ending up here -- I know it isn't a good thing. But... I'm glad. Sometimes, what's needed is for someone new to come along and say it's worth trying."
no subject
"It's worth tryin'." Just for the record. "The Barge wasn't ideal. A little food insecure, a little power insecure. But we were freer. Left to real choices, not strawman promises and fake smiles.. I wish we could.. I dunno. Snag the folks here and bring them over.. If the Barge is even in one piece anymore." He let another beat pass, unable to think of anything other than Flint.
"A little Chaos should force them to react. The Nurse, the Authority.. Someone." Anyone who might give them a fair meeting, a chance to twist themselves out of this unlivable bind.

She wants it. She wants it so badly she almost can't breathe for a second. She wants to go home, yeah, see her friends again and check on the Mojave and laugh about bad jokes with Yes Man and curl up next to Lily and Raul and -- To know she'll never. Never. Be brought back here for something as simple as losing her temper at someone. For putting down someone trying to hurt someone she cares about. For just trying to survive. She wants that, too -- But now that she's seen this ship? The miracles it can create? The friendships she's been able to make here, that she never would've had the chance for otherwise... The possibilities --
The choice.
She shakes her head a little -- at herself, to clear it. She finds herself lifting a hand to rub her fingers over the bullet scars on her forehead.
"The Authority?" she asks, because... It's the easiest thing to address, honestly. The rest of it... Her feelings are too strong, too tangled, for her to put words to right now. So she focuses on the unfamiliar, nice and simple. "What's the Authority?"
no subject
"You haven't heard that name?" Huh. Shed a little more light on how tightly contained the Clipper was. "They're the ones over the Nurse, over the Admiral, over whatever other Captain's they got here. It's a.. a corporate complex as far as I can tell. I don't know the whole story but the Admiral.. broke away. Broke rank. Ran. That's why we're here. The Authority caught wind and chased us. The Barge tried to run but.. I dunno. We got caught. They spoke to Steve, apparently. Gave him a choice, gave him some.. option that the rest of us didn't get. Wanted to talk to him. But not to us, I suppose."
It wasn't Steve's fault. Raylan didn't blame him or hold it against him. It was what it was. And it was unfair to the rest of them.

"You know... Not even once, did I wonder if there was something -- bigger, to all this. Like... It makes sense? But I didn't even consider that there were other ships, other... Captains. Other people so powerful to be able to do something like this. Not until you guys arrived. But..." She tilts her head, brow furrowed, but expression more on the curious and thoughtful side, despite what she's about to say. "I wonder... why. The Admiral took the Barge and ran. And what that says about the Authority."
no subject
"It feels like it sucks the idea of the outside world into a black hole or somethin'. Never changin'. Never evolvin', never growin'.. Maybe all the other ships under the Authority are run like this. Maybe.. Maybe he thinks it's as wrong as we do.. I've been tryin' to learn what I can about the Authority. Some of the folk that had been on the Barge longer, have seen more.. I'm missin' part of the story. But there's one there, and that's what I think is important."

Just saying that makes her homesick. Horribly, fiercely homesick. She wants to sit with Ulysses and watch the Divide storms in the distance. With Joshua and Daniel at a campfire and listen to them discuss the Bible. With Raul and Veronica on the couch while he tells them about his adventures in Mexico.
"But I hope... I hope -- If these stories are all so separate, that someone can connect them. See the whole of it. The heart of it." A beat. "And lay to rest everything that's wrong with it, so it can be reshaped. Rebuilt... into something better."
no subject
"Maybe. Tearin' it down would be an Olympian task. Leaves regular folk like you and I in the dust of it all, the edges, tryin' to survive and live. Not for us to solve but.. I'd like to think we can help inspire those that might. Those that might agree with us on some basic human rights. Put some real tanks in the ranks."
