[ There is a lot of loud teenage yelling in the bracelet. ]

This is some baloney! Gramps! Hey, Gramps, Crozier, where the mess are you? Ya gotta get me to him, you sanctimonious Nurse jerk, he's sick! He ain't doing well and someone's gotta look out for him. Tell me where he is or I'll break your kneecaps!

[ Understandably, telling someone that you'll break their kneecaps gets you sent to the naughty room. Kyoko is speedrunning getting in trouble as not even two hours into her stay on the Clipper, she's sent to a padded room in Sick Bay. Anyone visiting can hear faint yelling from inside of one of the rooms and actual yelling should they go inside to see what's what.

Later, she can be found skulking around the ship, glaring at everybody and shaking down anybody from the Barge to try and get information. Crozier isn't here. And in Kyoko's mind, that's not going to stand. ]

"You'll probably be assigned one in a couple of weeks. The Nurse sets 'em up in the middle of the month."

"Gross."

Well. At least this stupid place can let her call something gross. Thank heavens for small miracles, she supposes.

"That's how it goes."

Not particularly philosophical, but he's not the philosophical type.

"I've had a few of 'em."

"Were they all a bunch of goodie-two-shoes losers? Cause that's the vibe this place gives me." Pause. "Hey, I can call someone a loser!"

"Depends on what you mean. Personally, I think not just graduating is pretty silly. It's all straightforward, just say the right words and don't hit anyone, even if they're being really annoying. If someone can't manage that much, maybe they do deserve to be locked up.

Yeah, but Kyoko really likes hitting people. She frowns for a moment, thinking it over, before she asks,

"What's in it for your wardens? This place does deals, right?"

"Yup, and mine's really good."

"And the deal iiiiiis?" Kyoko asks, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm gonna make it so that the High Calendar works without remembrances."

"I have no idea what any of that means."

It's not Mikodez's fault if she comes from some backwards world without a Calendar, but he's willing to share information.

"The High Calendar is what makes everything work, like the spaceships and protection from aliens and terraforming and exotic effects and just everything. But right now it needs remembrances to keep going and those are -" He pauses a moment, trying to find words that aren't 'inappropriate', "Those... can involve people getting... hurt."

"So what?" Kyoko bluntly responds. "Hurt one person to protect everybody else? Seems simple enough. There's plenty of expendable people in the world."

Mikodez doesn't roll his eyes. Is it difficult being practically twelve and burdened by vast amounts of being right? Yes, but he's able to hold up under the burden.

"Obviously it's not one person. How would one person be able to power all that? With as much as the Calendar does, hundreds of people would be a perfectly reasonable trade off." It would be within the realm of perfectly reasonable to have a few hundred people a year tortured to death to make sure everyone else was safe.

"Again," Kyoko responds, "so what? There's six billion people on Earth. If your world's got anything close to that, killing a hundred people so that everything works properly doesn't matter. Heck, killing a hundred people to protect one billion, or even one million seems like a good deal to me."

Mikodez gives her an innocent smile. "That's probably why you're here as a patient. Unlike how I'm willing to work hard just to make sure that not even one person has to be hurt."

"You're eight," she points out, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. "You don't know a dang thing about how the world works."

He laughs, finally managing to flip over the top of the bookshelf to land on his hands. "You're not enough older than me for that to work." He doesn't think she's even as old as Miri, and definitely not anywhere near as scary as his older sister.

"Yeah, you'd think that wouldn't you. Cause you're seven." Kyoko simply shrugs as she continues. "Whatever. I don't need to pay attention to a lecture from a baby."

"Sure you don't, you can just be in prison forever until you get all ancient." Like seventeen or something. "Don't worry, I'm used to people being jealous."

"You know, I don't have to talk to mouthy little brats if I don't want to." Kyoko stands up, glaring down at the little snot, obviously starting to walk away from their conversation.

"Buzz off, kid. Go lay down for a nap or something."

He grins at her, hitting the paralyze button on his wearable before running off, laughing. No regrets in the moment!
